What is a solid-state battery?

Solid-state batteries are a type of battery technology that uses solid electrodes and solid electrolytes. 

Compared with traditional lithium-ion batteries, solid-state batteries have higher energy density, faster charging speeds, higher safety, and longer life. 

This battery technology achieves these advantages by using solid electrolytes instead of traditional liquid electrolytes. The working principle of solid-state batteries is similar to that of traditional lithium-ion batteries. When charging, lithium ions migrate from the positive electrode to the negative electrode through the solid electrolyte; when discharging, the process is reversed, and lithium ions migrate from the negative electrode to the positive electrode through the solid electrolyte, while electrons flow through the external circuit to generate current.

Advantages of solid-state batteries include:

High safety: Since flammable liquid electrolytes are abandoned, the risk of battery combustion or explosion is greatly reduced.

Good stability: Solid-state electrolytes have more stable mechanical and chemical properties, which greatly improves the static and cycle life of the battery.

Strong temperature adaptability: Solid-state batteries are not sensitive to temperature and can maintain discharge power over a wide temperature range, which can greatly alleviate the problem of battery capacity attenuation in winter.

High energy density: It is expected to reach 2-10 times that of the current ternary lithium battery, which is expected to significantly increase the range of electric vehicles.

At present, solid-state batteries have become an important development direction of power batteries and have broad application prospects in electric vehicles, energy storage equipment and other fields.
